smilodon

Smilodon this word comes from a Latin word called carving knife tooth 

🔎   It was discovered in the early 19th century by Peter Willem in 1842 the smilodon is commonly called the saber toothed tiger but is not related to the modern lion and cheetah family and it lived in America 🌍 during the ⌛ pleistocene epoch from 2.5 million years old -10,000 years ago. It weighed about 400 kilogram and over 1.5-2.3 meter long.

📍. The teeth of a Smilodon is brittle,long and relatively weak it is 7inches long and it opened at 120 degrees and compare to modern day big cats which open their jaws at 63 degrees  and it preyed on early mammals like ground sloth, wholly mammoth, wholly rhino's, early humans, and other mammals according to paleontologist they said it hunted by attacking it's prey by jumping down on it's pretty from a tree branches they had powerful strong legs and neck for clamping down on its prey and they have three sub species which are the s.grauclis,s.fatalis and, s.populator and they are one of the strongest predator to rule the land in the pleistocene epoch.
